Smalltown Man

Smalltown Man shows a scaled up halftoned image of Bargoed, the town in South Wales where Shapland grew up. Bargoed has been the site of alot of his works and is the starting point to the filmed sequences in A Sound Not Meant To Be Heard. This image was taken when he was 13 - in 1984 - Bronski Beat had just released Smalltown Boy, a sort of beacon of hope that was squashed by the introduction of section28 some four years later.

During the Pandemic, an A1 poster version was produced in support of Welsh food banks. Available for a donation - as much as you can afford - plus postage.
