Encompass O

Encompass O is a collaged moving-image work. It`s also a story. The central narrative is the experience of a signwriter who remembers letters by the shapes they take, not the sounds that they make. The film looks at how different languages - in this instance Welsh - offer new ways of seeing. The film is a poem, like Cynghanedd, two halves of a sentence that harmonise or work together. Found footage, speech and the rhythm of repetition and rehearsal; letters that make words that make sounds that make stories.
Encompass O was made for Venture Arts, Manchester, as an invited response to works of Barry Anthony Finan. Screened as part of Liverpool TATE-lates.
